Anti-Government protests deserve Trump’s support

Iran protests escalating as government crackdown looms

Two days ago, Christian Whiton of Fox News wrote a well-grounded opinion about protests against the Iranian authoritarian regime. It began under the guise of economic issues challenging a corrupt establishment. In a matter of hours, anti-government protests swelled into discontent against involvement in Syria, Iraq, and elsewhere.

Within minutes of Whiton’s opinion, President Trump tweets, “Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime’s corruption & its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad. Iranian govt should respect their people’s rights, including right to express themselves. The world is watching!”

Within hours, protesters spread throughout the country for a third straight day on New Year’s Eve, risking their lives to challenge the Islamist tyranny that has prevailed in the country since 1979, when it held American diplomats hostage.
